ON THE DOT'S 1st ANNUAL GIRLS TO THE FRONT: RIOT GRRL COVER SHOW
Being motivated by our anger with patriarchy and our desire to network and empower other womyn in our community, ON THE DOT deemed it plausible to have a riot grrl cover show. We saw riot grrl as a movement which empowered us as young grrls to be active feminists and critical of our communities and what we expect from others. So after only a few weeks of practicing, on February 20, 2011 ON THE DOT held its first annual GIRLS TO THE FRONT Riot Grrl Cover Show! The show featured covers from Bratmobile, Blondie, Joan Jett, L7 and Bikini Kill. Each band played full sets of songs we grew up memorizing because of their relatable content that made you feel feminism and smashing patriarchy are all relative! In 24 hours we managed to make hundreds of copies and put together a distro with zines, literature, and a plethora of information. Other community organizations such as RADIGALS and HUB CITY ANTI RACIST ACTION, supported and tabled our event. All proceeds from the event benefited Women Aware, a domestic abuse shelter in New Brunswick that serves womyn in Middlesex County.
Bratmobile!
Teen Wolves as Joan Jett and Blondie!
L7!
Members of Lost Weekend and Sparkleshit performing Bikini Kill!
All things considered, the show was a HUGE success! We were able to collect over $300 for Women Aware and all participants, organizers, and bands, felt it was a major accomplishment! Khristina Acosta, ON THE DOT organizer, said, "That was the best way to start my year!!!"
What first began as conversations between womyn about street harassment and feeling alienated in our various surroundings is now becoming something we hope to help ourselves and others. Through organizing events like Girls to the Front we aspire to create awareness of issues of oppression in our community and the world at large.

GREETINGS FROM ON THE DOT : FEMINIST COLLECTIVE AND DISTRO.
On The Dot was born out of a few womyn's desire and need to to feel safe, represented and supported by and within the DIY communities that we participate in. Throughout our various experiences as womyn in the New Brunswick DIY scene, we had all at one point or another experienced some form of discrimination and alienation from people who we considered like-minded peers. Whether that included street harassment, the lack of womyn, people of color, or queer identified people at shows, and particularly in bands, or the language used when hanging out with friends, we all identified with feeling uncomfortable and hurt by what we saw and heard around us. Eventually, we all came together to talk about our experiences and decided that what we needed was a network of womyn/allies who could not only identify with our struggles but could also help us challenge the oppressive actions we witnessed!
ON THE DOT is a feminist collective and distro located in New Brunswick, NJ that aims to cultivate a feminist network in and around our city’s DIY community. We are a group of womyn with diverse backgrounds and interests, who intend to organize with other womyn in the community, in order to establish safer spaces and support the various artistic endeavors of our community members.
Our mission as ON THE DOT/ GIRL GANG GIG NEW BRUNSWICK is to break these behaviors and oppressions by:
· Empowering womyn to showcase their music, art, and/or writing through workshops and discussions
· Creating and fostering the supportive networks we desire
· Cultivating safer spaces for ALL members of the New Brunswick community
· Educating members of the community on how to break their institutionalized oppressions by creating dialogues concerning issues of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.
· Confronting all forms of oppression in our surrounding community
· Benefiting and building coalitions
